SONG BOOKS 2016–2024

SONG BOOKS is an ongoing series of books and part of the archive Sculpture as Writing. Each songbook in this series is written in verse, with some pieces based on the structure of original compositions—one inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach’s church music, and one drawing from the dub music of British musician Linton Kwesi Johnson.

The works are designed not only for reading but also for various performances. Participants and actors are invited to transform the scripts into unforeseen scenes and compositions, adding layers of interpretation.

The first book in this series was created in 2016 for the exhibition Inglan is a Bitch at Spor Klübü in Berlin. Since then, the series has evolved, addressing a wide range of contemporary themes, including global warming, human engineering, the human body, COVID-19, war -referencing Käthe Kollwitz’s quote “Nie wieder Krieg” and loneliness.

SONG BOOKS draw on personal experiences and urgent global issues through language.
