Substance (2024)
Substance (2024) is a public artwork presented as Flugblätter—flyers distributed throughout public spaces in Berlin. Designed to engage passersby directly, Substance uses prints/posters displayed in the street environment, glued onto walls and streetlamps.
The work draws attention to 24 different groups of pesticides used in agricultural and natural environments. Each poster features a detailed explanation of its purpose, including categories such as insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, acaricides, biocides, and more. These flyers provide insights into the diverse functions and impacts of these substances.
Substance subtly reflects the immense scope of chemical use, pointing to the escalating global extinction of species. It is a confrontation with the fatal degradation of living environments and part of the archive ‘Chronicle of Extinction’.
